Liguria has excellent road and rail connections with the major Northern and Central Italian cities, with Switzerland, Germany, France and Spain (see road distances chart)
The Cristoforo Colombo Airport (build on the sea: great location!) has daily connections between Genoa, many Italian cities and a few important European destinations : Paris, London, Madrid, Munich, Tirana. More flights will be added in the next future. Special bus connections with Milano Malpensa (2 hours) and Nice (2.30 hours) airports allow an easy access to major international hubs. From Nice to the western part of the region it takes 45 minutes (to Imperia) and a little over 1 hour (to Savona).
There is also a second airport in Villanova d'Albenga offering direct flights to Rome Fiumicino.
But the best way to get to Liguria (at least from a visual standpoint) is still by sea. There are scheduled ferry connections to Genoa, La Spezia and Savona from Corse, Sicily, Sardinia, Morocco, Tunisia and Barcelona.
